Methodology

We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.

  • Before signing up for a promotional internet offer, remember to read all the fine print.

  • If you get a reward card, make sure to use it before it expires.
  • These limited-time internet deals can change quickly, so secure the best offer before the deal ends.

Other ways to save money on internet

Limited or seasonal promotions aren’t the only way to save money on internet service. Find out how to get free internet or try these pointers to save on your initial costs and monthly internet bill:

  • Install your own equipment: Skip the professional installation fee and set up your internet to save as much as $100. Self-installation is often a fairly simple process of plugging in the gateway and following the instructions in your ISP’s app. However, the cost of a technician visit is worth it if you are not comfortable setting up your modem and router or prefer the convenience of a professional installation.
  • Bundle with TV or mobile service: Getting an internet and TV bundle or adding cell phone service to your plan can add a discount of $20 or more with some ISPs. Your bundle rate will be more than a single service, so only bundle if you want two or more services.
  • Switch to another internet provider: Switching to a new and cheaper ISP is a quick way to get the lowest rates and other promotional perks like gift cards. Ensure that the overall savings make the move worthwhile and that your new internet speed is compatible with your internet activities.
  • Ask about industry discounts: AT&T offers 25% off mobile plans for active military, veterans, teachers, nurses and physicians. Verizon Fios offers active military and veterans $5–$15/mo. off qualifying plans. Xfinity customers who are military or veterans can receive a $50 prepaid card

Internet deals FAQs

Do all internet providers have special offers?

Most ISPs will run promotions. Promotions can include lower monthly rates for the first year, free installation or waived charges for equipment. Other deals might include bonus offers for gift cards or limited-time complimentary streaming services.

What provider has the best internet deals?

AT&T and Verizon Fios often offer some of the best internet deals, with substantial gift cards, free streaming services, devices or appliances for new customers. Verizon sometimes offers new devices, such as gaming consoles and smart assistants. The best promotions are often offered around special events like Labor Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day or Black Friday.
