Our take on Buckeye Broadband
Pros
Fastest fiber speeds up to 10 GB.
No contracts or early termination fees.
TV and streaming bundles available.
Cons
Large price increase after promo rate ends.
$16.99/mo. for modem.
Limited coverage area.
Buckeye has cheap introductory rates, but the standard prices are much more expensive than other best internet providers for comparable speeds. Plus, the modem adds $16.99/mo. to the monthly fee, and it costs another $10/mo. if you don’t sign up for autopay and paperless billing. With these stipulations, Buckeye ends up as one of the priciest internet providers available.
Buckeye does excel in offering several high-speed cable and fiber internet plans, with a maximum speed of 10 GB in limited areas. This speed is one of the fastest offered by any residential provider we’ve reviewed. Other Buckeye Wi-Fi perks include no contracts or early termination fees. Overall, Buckeye earned a 3.5 out of 5.

Methodology
We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.
Additional fees with Buckeye Broadband
Buckeye has several additional fees. These add-ons can increase your monthly internet bill significantly, but luckily most of the charges are optional, so you are not required to pay them if you opt out.
- $16.99/mo. for modem rental or provide your own router and modem for no charge.
- $10 installation fee (required on some plans).
- $5 for a paper bill (opt for paperless billing for no charge).
- $5 fee for non-auto pay (set up autopay to avoid charge).
Optional upgrades:
- $4/mo. for WTFast Single to enhance speeds on one desktop computer.
- $20/mo. to double your upload speed.
- $10/mo. for Brainiacs service unlimited tech support.
- $18.99/mo. for WTFast Pak. Includes all three previously mentioned services in a bundle for a savings of $15/mo.
- $6.99–$14.99/mo. for streaming services (including MGM+, Max or TiVo+).
Which Buckeye plan is right for you?
Buckeye Broadband’s best internet plans depend if cable or fiber internet is available at your home. Once you’ve determined what type of connection you can get, consider a good internet speed that can support your number of Wi-Fi devices and your primary online activities.
We recommend:
- Cable or fiber internet 200 Mbps for light to medium internet use and up to 10 devices. Activities can include gaming, streaming, browsing, email and more.
- Cable or fiber internet 600 Mbps–1 GB for medium internet use and up to 20 devices. Activities can include gaming and streaming on several devices at once.
- Fiber up to 1 GB for high internet use that includes nearly any activity on 20 or more devices and uploading large files, such as video and photos.
- Fiber internet 10 GB for the highest volume of internet use. Connect virtually unlimited devices and do any online activity with this plan.
Buckeye Broadband internet plan breakdowns
Choosing from the various Buckeye internet plans is simpler if you narrow down the specifics of your internet use. Since Buckeye cable is a pricier service, we suggest purchasing your own router and modem instead of renting equipment. This action will save $16.99/mo. ($203.88/year).
Buckeye Essentials Internet 200 Mbps – Best for light internet use
Who should use this plan? The cheapest plan, Essential Internet, is the best choice for light internet usage. This cable internet plan is the only one with limited data, so it is not ideal for heavy internet users. Upgrading to unlimited data is an extra $30/mo., although you get unlimited data for the first six months as part of your introductory deal. The price increases from $39.99 to $59.99 after three months, and then to $103.99/mo. in month seven.
Buckeye Supreme Internet 600 Mbps – Good for unlimited data
Who should use this plan? The Supreme Internet deal (600 Mbps starting at $69.99/mo.) is a great offer for homes that need unlimited data. In some markets, this home Wi-Fi plan also includes 90-day free digital access to Toledo newspaper The Blade. The price is $69.99 for the first three months, $89.99 for months 3–6, then $113.99/mo.
Buckeye Fiber Internet – Best for fast upload speeds
Who should use this plan? Buckeye high-speed internet with a fiber connection has symmetrical upload speeds. The upload speeds are equal to the download speeds, a benefit you won’t get with Buckeye cable internet packages. This makes fiber better for homes that need to frequently upload content or large files. Fiber’s fast, consistent speeds also make it the best choice for super-connected households with numerous Wi-Fi devices (20 or more).
Still, the 10 GB offering from Buckeye Broadband is likely not worth the cost to the vast majority of homes. This ultra-speed is excessive for even the busiest internet homes and is often only necessary for mansions or home businesses with the utmost internet needs. This speed option has limited availability, and pricing is not readily listed on the Buckeye website, but it likely costs upwards of $400/mo. You must call or fill out a request form to obtain this package.
Buckeye Broadband vs. other internet providers
Use a speed test to compare your current internet service to Buckeye Wi-Fi plans if you are switching from another provider. Buckeye’s competitors based on the market area include AT&T, T-Mobile 5G, Frontier and Hughesnet. AT&T and Frontier have cheaper internet over the long run since their prices don’t increase as frequently as Buckeye.
Provider | Speed range | Starting price range* | Connection type |
---|---|---|---|
Buckeye Broadband | 200–1,000 Mbps | $39.99–$89.99/mo. | Cable, fiber |

Frontier | 200–5,000 Mbps | $39.99–$154.99/mo. | Fiber, DSL |
T-Mobile 5G Home | 72–245 Mbps | $60/mo. | 5G |
Hughesnet | 50–100 Mbps | $49.99–$94.99/mo. | Satellite |
