Methodology

We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2025. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.

How to choose an internet provider in Dallas

The average download and upload speeds in Dallas, TX, are 148 Mbps and 20 Mbps, respectively, according to Speedtest.net. This speed is slower than average Texas internet overall; however, Dallas fiber provider AT&T offers up to 5,000 Mbps (5 GB),* so faster internet speeds are available in much of the region.

With this range of speed choices, it’s best to know your preferred speed, cost and connection type when you’re shopping for an internet provider in Dallas so you select a plan specific to your internet needs.

Here’s how to determine the best plans for you:

  • Availability: Not every deal is available throughout Dallas, so first determine the providers at your address by shopping the plans at the top of this page. Searching for ISPs by address will ensure you don’t waste time researching providers that are not available at your location.
  • Need faster speeds or have a larger budget: Households with 10 devices or more should consider fiber or cable plans of 500 Mbps and up. If you upload large files or lots of photos and video content, stick to a fiber plan with symmetrical upload speeds. Fiber plans with even faster speeds are good for competitive gamers, frequent streamers or those who don’t want to be inconvenienced by a lagging internet connection. These plans start at $65 and up.
  • Average speeds and cost: If you plan to connect less than 10 devices simultaneously, a 5G plan or a basic cable plan should work well for you. Be aware that speeds can fluctuate during busy times of day. On evenings and weekends, you may experience an uptick in buffering when streaming or gaming. Plans are available for around $60/mo. for basic 5G and cable internet service up to 300 Mbps.
  • Rural areas: Satellite or DSL connections are the most available for homes on the outer edge of the suburbs and rural areas surrounding Dallas. DSL runs over copper telephone lines and has speeds of 300 Mbps or less. Satellite internet from Hughesnet, Viasat or Starlink are generally more expensive but can offer faster speeds, from 12–250 Mbps.

*Speeds based on wired connection. Actual speeds may vary. For 5GIG, single device wired speed maximum 4.7Gbps. For more info, go to www.att.com/speed101. As of 03/20/25.

Still, cable and 5G internet providers in Dallas offer high-speed plans that suffice for most households and circumstances.
