EarthLink internet speeds

EarthLink high-speed internet varies by location, so check your address to find out what speeds are available before choosing which plan suits your household’s online activities and the number of connected devices.

  • Light internet activity and fewer than five wireless devices should function fine with internet speeds of 100 Mbps or less. EarthLink Satellite offers speeds up to 100 Mbps; EarthLink Wireless up to 25 Mbps.
  • Opt for internet speeds greater than 100 Mbps if you connect 5–10 devices simultaneously.
  • Internet speeds of 1 GB or more is the best internet plan if you are streaming, gaming and doing other high-bandwidth activities while connecting over 10 devices at once.

Methodology

We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2025. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.

EarthLink internet review

Based on our ranking criteria, our EarthLink reviews rated the provider 3.7 out of 5. The provider performed well in speed, availability and connection type but underperformed in fees and overall price.

  • EarthLink offers various types of internet connections; the availability of each is based on where you live.
  • Most plans are without contracts; EarthLink may charge for installation or modem and router equipment (based on the type of internet available at your home).
  • EarthLink uses the existing infrastructure of other internet service providers to deliver internet service. For instance, if AT&T Fiber and EarthLink Fiber are available in your area, the EarthLink service will use AT&T’s lines.
  • If you’re switching to EarthLink from your local ISP (using the same type of internet connection), expect similar speeds and reliability with EarthLink.

Best EarthLink internet plans

EarthLink Fiber

100–500 Mbps — Best value

Our Earthlink Fiber internet review: At $39.95/mo., the 100 Mbps plan is cheaper than average internet monthly costs, but the 300 or 500 Mbps plans ($69.95$79.95/mo.) are more expensive than other ISPs.

Who fits this plan?

EarthLink 100, 300 or 500 Mbps fiber plans are home Wi-Fi plans equipped to handle small to mid-sized homes. The 100 Mbps is EarthLink’s best internet deal for customers who want to try out fiber.

Who doesn’t fit this plan?

Homes with more than 10 wireless devices may find the speeds insufficient for simultaneous online activities on multiple devices.

  • No contracts or extreme price hikes.

  • Speeds up to 5 GB.

Thumbs Down
Cons
  • Faster speeds can get pricey.

  • EarthLink is not responsible for outages/network maintenance.

1–5 GB — Best for gaming and streaming

Our Earthlink Fiber internet review (multi-gig): EarthLink multi-gigabit plans are competitively priced to connect your smart home with the internet speed you need.

Who fits this plan?

The fastest EarthLink speeds can handle any internet activity, from gaming and streaming while connecting any number of wireless devices.

Who doesn’t fit this plan?

Plans with 2 or 5 GB internet speeds are faster than necessary for many homes; households with average internet use would likely be overpaying if they sign up for this service.

EarthLink Satellite internet — Best for rural areas

Our EarthLink Satellite internet review: Fast Wi-Fi up to 100 Mbps for rural and hard-to-reach locations or challenging terrain.

Who fits this plan?

If your home is outside of city limits or unreachable with cable or fiber internet, EarthLink Satellite could be your solution for home Wi-Fi.

Who doesn’t fit this plan?

Contracts, startup costs and data limitations are some satellite internet features that may be limiting for certain customers.

EarthLink Wireless — Best for quick installation

Our EarthLink Wireless reviews: Plan that uses 4G LTE and 5G (where available) to provide up to 25 Mbps internet for rural areas.

Who fits this plan?

Homes with light to medium internet usage and one to five devices will benefit from EarthLink Wireless’s download and upload speeds. Data packages are available in 100 GB, 375 GB or unlimited.

Who doesn’t fit this plan?

Gaming and streaming on multiple devices won’t work well with EarthLink Wireless due to its maximum 25 Mbps speed.

EarthLink business internet

EarthLink Business offers internet speeds up to 10 GB and EarthLink Voice through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), which enables phone calls over the internet. EarthLink also provides marketing and IT services for small businesses, including website optimization, branding, online marketing and more.

EarthLink Internet vs. other providers

Compared to its competitors, EarthLink’s prices are higher for similar speeds, but unlike other providers, EarthLink’s rates remain consistent beyond the first year for most packages.
