Sonic is a high-speed internet service provider (ISP) with few flaws. All the plans are 1 GB or higher, and the prices are extremely reasonable, especially compared to other 1 GB options in the same areas. Sonic’s standard 1 GB plan is $20–$30 less than other 1 GB offerings from competing ISPs.
Equipment is extra, but you are not required to rent from Sonic. However, we recommend leasing equipment from the company because they offer top-of-the-line routers and will provide technical support for their equipment. Technical support for equipment is not available if you use your own router.

Sonic earned average marks for additional fees, such as equipment costs and availability, since its coverage area is limited to just a few cities in California.

Which Sonic plan is right for you?
Sonic offers 1 GB or 10 GB internet; typically, only one of those options will be available at your home. This fact makes choosing a Sonic internet plan very easy since you will not have multiple plans to choose from.
The 1 GB internet plan should be fast enough for any online activity, from gaming to streaming and more. The 10 GB plan is likely much faster than even the most connected home will ever need, but if it is offered in your area, it costs the same as the 1 GB plans, at just $49.99/mo. for the first year.
Sonic Fusion Fiber 1 GB – Great for gaming
Who fits this plan? This plan includes fiber internet speeds up to 1 GB and unlimited home phone for $49.99/mo. Even if you do not plan on using the phone, it is still included with this internet package. The rate increases by $10/mo. after the first year, which is still a cheaper 1 GB internet price than any competing ISP. This plan has great speeds for gaming, streaming, email, remote work or any online activity.
Sonic Fiber 10 GB – Good for nearly any household
Who fits this plan? The Sonic 10 GB plan is so fast that there’s no limit to what you can do online or how many Wi-Fi connections you can have in your home. At $49.99/mo., this price for this speed is unheard of with any other ISP. You can also get home phone included for an additional $10/mo.
Who doesn’t fit this plan? The price point on this plan is competitive with other ISPs, which may still make it a better deal even if you are paying for more speed than you need. However, if you need a very cheap internet plan (under $40/mo.) or have very light internet use, it might be worth going with another provider’s basic plan.
Sonic internet equipment
Sonic offers three router rental options, starting at $5/mo. Choose the best router for you based on the size of your home and how many devices you need to connect. You can select multiple routers to create a mesh network to broaden your Wi-Fi coverage area in your home if necessary. You do not have to lease a router from Sonic, but the company will not provide technical support to third-party equipment.
